'Would Be The Awesomest Thing in the World': Residents Hopeful Natural Food Co-Op Comes to Marion

New Pioneer Co-Op is considering opening a new location, and Marion, Cedar Rapids, North Liberty and Iowa City are under consideration.

Marion residents spoke up quickly when news spread that Iowa City's iconic New Pioneer Co-Op was considering opening a location in our fair town. New Pioneer offers a wide selection of natural foods, with an emphasis on organics and locally grown, as well as meats, cheeses, wines and deli service. New Pioneer leadership is considering a new location, and Marion, Cedar Rapids, North Liberty and Iowa City options are all in the mix.

Here's are some of comments readers made: Chelsea Bacon Can you please put one in my back yard? But yes Marion is good too. Carolyn Wright Yes please! I travel to Coralville at least once a week to shop there  Several, "I would love it"'s a couple "YES"'s with varying amounts of excalmation points and one "that would be the awesomest thing in the world!"

Jill Ackerman, president of the Marion Chamber of Commerce, said she's spoken with Co-Op leaders but she didn't have many details to share beyond that the store would be a welcome addition. "It would be a huge positive," Ackerman said. "New Pionner Co-Op has a great reputation for high quality, local (community) owned, recycling. It would be awesome for Marion to have a place like that located here. I would fit well into Marion."
