Urbandale High School Bowling Coach Gretta Richardson is the 2022 recipient of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Unionβs Bowling Golden Plaque of Distinction Award. Richardson was honored Wednesday, February 23 at the Class 2A State Individual Tournament at Maple Lanes in Waterloo.

The IGHSAUβs Golden Plaque of Distinction Award honors the Iowa coach who has demonstrated a successful career while making notable contributions toward school, community and the coaching profession.
Richardson, a 1982 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and a 1986 graduate of William Penn, has been teaching and coaching since 1989. She coached volleyball at Davis County for 10 seasons before taking a similar position at Saydel. She started the bowling program at Saydel before moving to Urbandale High School in 2005. She has coached the boys and girls bowling teams at Urbandale since 2014, where she enjoyed success with both programs. Her boys bowling teams won two state bowling crowns while two other teams were state runners-up.
