Urbandale, ISU Architecture School of Design Team-Up For Lakeview Park Shelter

The students will be executing a full scope of work including design, budgeting, documentation, fabrication, and installation.

The City of Urbandale has partnered with the Iowa State University Architecture School of Design to design and build the new Lakeview Park open air shelter.

The Iowa State University’s Design-Build Studio is an interdisciplinary design and construction studio organized annually by Professor Bruce Bassler and the Department of Architecture.

The students will be executing a full scope of work including design, budgeting, documentation, fabrication, and installation.

The pavilion will be an open-air shelter designed to accommodate the park’s waterfront setting, multiple gatherings of small or large groups, provide grilling and picnicking amenities, ambient evening lighting, and graceful landscaping.

The students will be working hard to incorporate durable and sustainable features into a pavilion that respects the adjacencies of the neighborhood, imparts a uniquely elegant form, and which can–perhaps–defy a problematic goose population.
