5 Things Waukee Residents Should Know: Take a Walk, Take a Picture, Take in a Game

Here's what's going on in Waukee today, Oct. 7, and some other stuff you might want to know.

1) Waukee Walks

The 1K Waukee Walks event, part of the Iowa Healthiest State initiative, will take place today at beginning at noon. If you can't make the walk at Centennial Park, organizers say you can still participate by leaving your home, work or school and walking at noon today. The state hopes to set a world record by having more than 250,000 people walking simultaneously during the event.

2) Brookview Picture Retake Day

Picture retakes for all students will be offered today, throughout the day. If you received your child's pictures, and you would like to have them retaken, the photos that you DO NOT want must be returned before pictures will be retaken. Any new students can pick up a picture order envelope in the office.

3) Waukee Football vs. Fort Dodge

The football teams will take on Fort Dodge tonight in Fort Dodge. The sophomore Warriors play at 4:45 p.m. The varsity team kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Waukee Patch will have live coverage of the varsity game tonight. Check back for up-to-the-minute scores.

4) The Weather

It's going to feel more like summer than fall today. Expect sunny skies with a high near 85. Tonight, partly cloudy with a low around 61.

5) Did You Know?

Did you know that today is the start of Yom Kippur (also known as the Day of Atonement?) The Jewish holiday begins at sunset and is observed with a 25 hour period of fasting and prayer. Most people of the Jewish faith abstain from work and/or school and spend the day in prayer or in synagogue.
