City of Waukee Names 2011 Citizen of the Year

At a meeting for the Waukee City Council Monday night, mayor Bill Peard named Waukee's Ann Jordan Strong 2011 Citizen of the Year.

At Monday night's meeting, Mayor Bill Peard delivered the news that a committee has chosen Waukee's 2011 Citizen of the Year.

Ann Jordan Strong was chosen among a pool of citizens nominated for the 2011 Citizen of the Year distinction. Strong, according to Peard, worked for the city in several capacities for more than 25 years and was a standout amongst the other candidates.  

"She's been a long standing citizen of Waukee and has served the city well," Peard said.

Strong is carrying on a bit of a tradition with the honor. Strong's mother, Marguerite Jordan, was Waukee's 2008 Citizen of the Year.

Details are being finalized for a reception honoring Strong. Peard said it would be held later this spring.

The selection committee that chose Strong included Mayor Peard; Sara Larson, president of the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce; Dave Wilkerson, superintendent of the Waukee Community School District; and Vivian Wilson, 2010 Waukee Citizen of the Year.
