City Of Waukee: Waukee Named One Of “The 50 Best Places To Live In The U.S.” By Money

Once again, the City of Waukee is gaining attention on a national level as a great place to live. 

On Sept. 14, independent economics website, Money, released its annual “Best Places to Live” list, and this time Waukee landed at #11. In 2015, Waukee was #42 on this list of the top 50 cities deemed excellent places to live based on job growth, home prices and quality of life.

The write-up from Money mentions Waukee’s immense growth of 10,000 residents since 2010 as well as the ongoing construction of new buildings by the Waukee Community School District. 

The article also points out that although Waukee’s housing market is booming – having issued nearly 600 single-family housing permits in 2020 – that compared to national home prices, Waukee’s median home price of $272,854 is “still quite affordable”.  

It states the City’s median income is at more than $104,000 annually and that the unemployment rate is 3.3 percent.  

“Waukee is honored to again find itself on this prestigious list,” Waukee Mayor Courtney Clarke said. “I know my family certainly feels fortunate to live, learn and grow in this community. Our City focuses on continual improvement, adding amenities and infrastructure to support our wonderful residents and neighborhoods. We believe it’s a formula that equals a good quality of life, and it will only get better.”

Money stated a number of factors it takes into account when forming its annual list. One hundred different metrics were reviewed and were organized into nine categories:

• Cost of Living
• Economic opportunity
• Diversity
• Education
• Fun/amenities
• Health and safety
• Housing market
• Income and personal finances
• Quality of life
