Waukee Council Member Hughes to Take Oath of Office Today

New Waukee City Council member Shelly Hughes will take the oath of office prior to her first council meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Waukee City Hall.

Tonight, prior to the regularly scheduled meeting of the , new council member Shelly Hughes will take the oath of office. It will be Hughes' first meeting as a member of the council.

Hughes won one of two open spots on the Waukee council in the Nov. 8 election with 515 votes. The other open seat was awarded to incumbent Casey Harvey just last week by the Dallas County Board of Supervisors. Harvey and challenger Chris Colter tied for the second seat with 502 votes each. Harvey's name was drawn from a hat determining the winner.

  • Acceptance of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Enhancement and Protection Fund grant agreement and an engineering agreement with Veenstra & Kimm, Inc. to begin work on the Heart of the Warrior Trail.
  • A second reading of an ordinance that would prohibit U-turns at the intersection of Florence Drive and Southeast University Avenue near Waukee High School.
  • The appointment of council members to fill positions as liaisons to the boards, committees and commissions for the city of Waukee left vacant after former council member Darlene Stanton resigned in October.

The Waukee City Council will meet tonight at 5:30 in the Waukee City Council Chambers in Waukee City Hall.
