Dallas County Recorder Hosts Passport Day, March 10
The Dallas County Recorder's Office in Adel will host an event March 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in honor of Passport Day 2012.
The Dallas County Recorder’s Office is hosting a special passport event in Adel, Iowa on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications. The Dallas County Recorder’s Office is joining the Department of State in celebrating Passport Day in the USA 2012, a national passport acceptance and outreach event.
U.S. citizens must present a valid passport book when entering or re-entering the United States by air. U.S. citizens entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government.
Dallas County Recorder Chad Airhart said, “We are pleased to be open on a Saturday to assist our citizens in acquiring this important document. We understand that throughout the week, many Dallas County residents may have a difficult time getting to the Courthouse during office hours, and we hope this makes obtaining a passport more convenient.”

For applicants over the age of 16, the cost to obtain a passport book is $135 ($110 to the US State Department and $25 to the Dallas County Recorder). For minors, ages 15 and under, the cost to obtain a passport book is $105 ($80 to the US State Department and $25 to the Dallas County Recorder). Minor children 15 years of age and under need both parents present when applying. Minor children ages 16 & 17 need one parent present when applying. Photos can be taken by the Recorder’s Office for only $10.00. In order to apply for a passport you will need a certified copy of your birth certificate and a government issued I.D. If you need a copy of your birth certificate and you were born in Dallas County, for $15 the Recorder’s office can get you a certified copy of your birth certificate.

Forms may be downloaded from travel.state.gov and filled out in black ink prior to coming in on Passport Day. U.S. citizens may also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 1-877-487-2778.
