"Dancing at Lughnasa" by playwright Brian Friel, takes place in a small village in Ireland in 1936. The story centers around the five unmarried Mundy sisters, who seem to live a simple, quiet existence, taking care of one another with little contact with the outside world. Music is one of the few brights spots in an otherwise dreary life, as they all dream of attending the festival of Lughnasa, a pagan celebration that involves drinking and dancing.Â
The ensemble cast of eight — five women, three men — has been rehearsing since October and producer/director Wayne Kischer said it was the perfect choice for these thespians.
