Five Things in Waukee: Basketball, "Festival of Peace," "A Magical Christmas" and Winter Break Fun

Here's everything you need to know today, Dec. 18, and some other stuff too.

1) Waukee YMCA Basketball - Youth and Adult

The Waukee YMCA will host a basketball clinic today at beginning at 1 p.m. The clinic is open to preschool and kindergarten-aged students.

The Waukee YMCA will also host an adult men's basketball league today at 5 p.m. at the Waukee Family YMCA.

2) "Festival of Peace" Choral Event

The Waukee High School Vocal Music program will present the 2nd annual "Festival of Peace" choral concert at Waukee High School today at 2:30 p.m.

The 9th grade chorus, 10th grade chorale, intermezzo, a cappella, string ensemble, brass ensemble, and children’s chorus will all participate. The concert will feature a combination of poetic readings and reflection, audience hymn sing as well as musical interludes by guest symphony string and brass ensembles.

3) "A Magical Christmas Tour" at Point of Grace Church

is hosting "A Magical Christmas Tour" featuring 33Miles and Harris III Master Illusionist today at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at pointofgrace.com. Discounts for groups of ten or more can be obtained by calling Point of Grace at (515) 987-9595.

4) Today's Weather

Christmas is coming a week early with today's forecast. It's going to be mostly sunny and a little breezy with a high of 52. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 30.

5) Register for Winter Activities with the Waukee Parks & Recreation

Looking for something for the kids to do during winter break? There's a ski trip to Seven Oaks in Boone, open to students in 4th through 8th grades, on Dec. 28. Attendees will leave at 9 a.m. from Waukee City Hall and return at 5 p.m. There will be six hours of skiing and a mini-ski lesson. Participants must dress warm and bring spending money for lunch and snacks. Kids are welcome to bring their own sack lunch and snacks. Cost is $50.

A separate ski trip to Sleep Hollow Sports Park is open for students in grades 3rd through sixth grades on Dec. 29. Participants will enjoy three hours of snow tubing and lunch on the way home. Kids will leave from Waukee City Hall at 9:15 a.m. and return at 2:45 p.m. Dress warm (gloves, hats, and boots) and bring spending money for snacks and lunch. Cost is $28.
