Five Things in Waukee: A Christmas Drive, Toddlertime, "Festival of Peace" and More

Here's everything you need to know today, Dec. 16, and some other stuff too.

1) Waukee Christmas Drive, Last Day for Donations

Today is the last day to donate to the 's Christmas Drive. Donations of canned goods, paper products, and personal hygiene products along with new, unwrapped toys will be accepted at the Waukee Police Department. Items can be dropped off today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you wish to make a monetary donation, make the check payable to the "Waukee Christmas Fund."

2) Toddlertime at the Waukee Public Library

Toddlertime for ages 18 months to 3 years, will be held today at the at 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Toddlers and their caregivers will enjoy songs, finger plays, and read-aloud stories, followed by playtime.

3) Maple Grove Elementary Band & Chorus Assembly

The Band And Chorus Assembly will take place today in the Maple Grove Elementary gymnasium from 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

4) Waukee High School Basketball vs. Ames High School

There will be lots of great Waukee basketball today in Ames. The girls JV and boys 10th grade teams will both play at 4:45 p.m. The girls varsity team plays at 6:15 p.m. and the boys varsity team plays at 7:45 p.m. All games will be played at Ames High School.

5) "Festival of Peace" Choral Event

The Waukee High School Vocal Music program will present the 2nd annual "Festival of Peace" choral concert at Waukee High School. The concert begins tonight at 7 p.m. and runs again Sunday at 2:30 p.m. 

The 9th grade chorus, 10th grade chorale, intermezzo, a cappella, string ensemble, brass ensemble, and children’s chorus will all participate. The concert will feature a combination of poetic readings and reflection, audience hymn sing as well as musical interludes by guest symphony string and brass ensembles.
