Five Things in Waukee: Basketball, Winterfest, Max Wellman and "Spy School"

Here's everything you need to know today, Dec. 2, and some other stuff too.

1) Toddlertime at the Waukee Public Library

Toddlertime for ages 18 month to 3 years, will be held today at the Waukee Public Library at 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Toddlers and their caregivers will enjoy songs, finger plays, and read-aloud stories, followed by playtime.

2) Boys and Girls Basketball vs. Indianola

Both the boys and girls basketball teams will face off against Indianola tonight. The 10th grade boys get things started in the Waukee High School gym at 4:45 p.m., followed by the girls varsity team at 6:15 p.m. The varsity boys will tip-off at 7:45 p.m.

The JV girls basketball team will play in the Prairieview School gym at 4:45 p.m.

3) Winterfest 2011

The annual Waukee winter tradition known as Winterfest will be held tonight from 6 to 8 p.m.

Santa Claus will arrive promptly at 6 p.m. on the historic Waukee Triangle, riding a Waukee fire truck. Kids of all ages will have the chance to sit on Santa's lap to let the jolly one know what they want for Christmas.

Also on the Triangle, there will be ice-carving demonstrations and a shuttle to take people to the Maple Street Community Center, where there will be soup, cider, hot cocoa and cookies for all. There will even be a craft area for the kids.

4) Waukee Area Arts Council Presents Max Wellman

Max Wellman will perform tonight at 7 p.m. at ArtsCentral. Wellman is part of the Waukee Area Arts Council's Home Grown Talent Concert Series. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and are available calling (515) 402-7870, at the Waukee Hardware, or at the door the night of the performance, based on availability.

5) "Spy School" at the Theatre Arts Center

The 8th grade and combined play, "Spy School" opens tonight at 7 p.m. at the Theatre Arts Center at Admission is $5 per person.

"Spy School" will play again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. if you can't make this evening's show.
