Five Things in Waukee: Basketball, Strong Families, Winter Weather and Church Services

1) Waukee YMCA Preschool/Kindergarten Basketball Clinics

The Waukee YMCA will host a basketball clinic today at beginning at 1 p.m. The clinic is open to preschool and kindergarten-aged students.

Registration is still open for the second session of the preschool/kindergarten basketball clinic that begins this month. There will also be a kindergarten basketball league that runs February through March. Registration is open now.

2) Waukee YMCA Adult Men's Basketball League

The Waukee YMCA will host an adult men's basketball league today at 5 p.m. at the Waukee Family YMCA.

Another men's league will begin in February or March.  Please email joel.goetsch@dmymca.org if you are interested in participating.

3) The Strengthening Families Program for Parents and Youth 

Strengthening Families is a seven week program that helps families build strong relationships with youth ages 10-14. Parents learn to use love and limits in guiding their children, family communication, and problem-solving. Youth learn to set goals, understand & respond to stress, and practice skills to deal with peer pressure. Strengthening Families is offered on Sundays at 5:30 p.m. at 1608 Grove St., Adel. The program runs through Feb. 26 and is free through the Iowa State University Extension & Outreach and is supported by the Dallas County Children's Advocacy Council.

Did you know that two churches meet in Waukee schools every Sunday? Waukee Community Church meets at Prairieview School beginning at 7:30 a.m. Westwind Church meets at South Middle School at 8 a.m.
