Five Things in Waukee: Happy Halloween!

Here's what's going on in Waukee today, Oct. 31, and some other stuff you might want to know.

1) Yard Waste Pick Up

Monday is yard waste pick up. Make sure that all yard waste is placed on the curb in clearly marked containers or yard waste bags, and that sticks, twigs and tree limbs are bundled and are no longer than four feet. If your yard waste is missed today, the City asks that you contact the Utility Office at 978-5502.

2) Food Pantry and Free Clinic Open Today

will be open today for those people living in the Waukee School District or for those with approval from local churches to receive non-perishable food and personal items. The pantry is open from 4 to 6 p.m.

will also be open today, 6 to 8 p.m. Registration is from 5:30 - 7 p.m. The free clinic provides everything from high blood pressure treatment to care for a cold or even minor injury.

3) Last Day for Little Pumpkin Costume Challenge Submissions

Have you entered your little pumpkin in our with Heidi Klum? If not, there's still time. Submissions can be made until 9 p.m. tonight (Oct. 31). Entering is easy. Just upload a photo of your child, 12 years of age or younger, in his or her Halloween costume. Entries must be made by the parent or legal guardian of the child photographed. Full rules are here.

Patch will whisk the winner to New York or Los Angeles for a two day, three night trip for two that includes a meet and greet with Heidi Klum, plus a donation of $1,031 to a local charity of the winner's choice. Nine runners up will also get a $1031 donation from Patch to a local charity of their choice.

5) Citizen Committee Volunteers Needed

The City of Waukee is taking applications for vacancies on all appointed boards, commissions and committees. This application process is in an effort to ensure diversity and representation of our community. Submit completed applications should be submitted to City Hall by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 for Park Board and Friday, Dec. 2 for all other boards of interest. All applicants must be Waukee residents at least 18 years of age. These are uncompensated positions. All applications are subject to the open record laws of the State of Iowa.
