Five Things in Waukee: Library Classes, Tax Forms, Volunteers Needed and Warmer Temps

Here's everything you need to know today, Jan. 25, and some other stuff, too.

1) Activities at the Waukee Public Library

Looking for some fun for the kids today? Check out Playful Preschoolers at 10 a.m. at the Waukee Public Library. Playful Preschoolers is for children ages 3 to 6. It includes read-aloud stories, songs and rhymes followed by a craft.

Babies and Books also meets at 10 a.m. It's for pre-walkers (babies approximately birth to 18 mos.) with a caregiver. There will be songs, books and rhymes. Only one child per caregiver is recommended.

There will also be an open gaming session for teens today beginning at 3:30 p.m.

2) Waukee City Council Work Session Rescheduled

The Waukee City Council's FY2013 budget work session originally scheduled for today has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m.

3) Tax Forms at the Waukee Public Library

Tax forms are now available at the Waukee Public Library. Forms can be found online at www.irs.gov and www.state.ia.us/tax.  Paper versions of many tax forms are no longer available, but may be obtained online. The library has 10 public access Internet computers available if you wish to file online.

4) Volunteers Needed at the Waukee Area Christian Services

Waukee Area Christian Services (Food Pantry and Free Clinic), is looking for skilled volunteers to fill two new key volunteer positions.  

Newsletter writer/editor - This volunteer will design, write, edit and help maintain a monthly e-newsletter to be shared with volunteers and others supporting the organization.  Possibly using an online resource similar to Constant Contact.  Writing, editing and/or design skills needed.  Ideal for communications or journalism college students or professionals.

Social Media Specialist – This volunteer will assist with the development and maintenance of social media resources ie Facebook, Twitter. Interact with social media followers and help generate content that promotes organization's work, events, and volunteer/serving opportunities.  Knowledge of and experience working with Facebook and other social media mediums. 

Both volunteer positions can be done from home and on the volunteer’s schedule.  A commitment of six months or more is preferred. If you are interested in learning more please contact Melissa Stimple at Melissa@WaukeeChristianServices.org or 515-321-0894.
