Five Things in Waukee: Library Fun, a Christmas Drive, a Fundraiser and Winter Break

Here's everything you need to know today, Dec. 21, and some other stuff too.

1) Waukee Public Library Activities

Looking for a little something to do with the kids today? The has preschool storytime for ages 3-6 at 10:15 a.m. Babies and books is also held at 10:15 a.m. This program is for pre-walkers and a caregiver. Songs, books and rhymes are included.

Teen Holiday Fear Factor will be held at 3:30 p.m.

2) Waukee Christmas Drive

The 2011 Waukee Annual Christmas Drive ended Dec. 19 with 122 families including 330 children and 25 seniors receiving donated holiday goods and food. The Drive is an annual event that lends support to area families who find themselves in need around the holidays.

Donations for the Waukee Christmas Drive are accepted throughout the year. If you are interested in donating to the program, please contact Marggie at Waukee Police Department, (515) 987-1073 Mon. through Fri., 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

3) Did You Know?

The Brookview Elementary PTO announced yesterday that it earned $15,058.76 from its most recent fundraiser, double over what the PTO had hoped to take in for the school.

4) Winter Break Activities

Looking for things for the kids to do over winter break?    

On Dec. 28, students in 4th through 8th grade can spend a full day skiing at Seven Oaks in Boone. Attendees will depart around 9 a.m. from Waukee City Hall and will return at 5 p.m. There will be six hours of skiing and a mini-ski lesson. Participants must dress warm and bring spending money for lunch and snacks. Kids are welcome to bring their own sack lunch and snacks. Cost is $50. 

On Dec. 29, students in 3rd through 6th grade can enjoy three hours of snow tubing at Sleepy Hollow Sports Park. Kids will leave from the Waukee City Hall at 9:15 a.m. and will return at 2:45 p.m.  Attendees will stop for lunch on the way home. Dress warm (gloves, hats, and boots) and bring spending money for snacks and lunch. Cost is $28.
