Five Things in Waukee: Library Time, Holiday Parties, Winter Break and the Community Center

Here's everything you need to know today, Dec. 22, and some other stuff too.

1) Toddlertime and Pajama Time at the Waukee Public Library

The is hosting two fun family activities today. Toddlertime is for ages 18 month to 3 years and is offered at 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Toddlers and caregivers will enjoy songs, finger-plays, and read-aloud stories, followed by playtime.

Pajama Time family storytime will be held tonight at 6:45 p.m. It's open to the entire family.

2) Elementary Schools Winter Parties

Students in all Waukee elementary schools will hold their winter parties today. , , , , and elementary schools will celebrate the holiday with treats, games and stories in their classrooms. Check with your child's teacher for details specific to your classroom party.

3) Winter Break Starts This Afternoon

Winter break for students in all 10 Waukee Schools will begin today at the conclusion of the regular school day. Classes will resume on Jan. 3, 2012.

4) Today's Weather

Today could be our last chance for a white Christmas. Expect scattered flurries and light snow with a high near 33. Tonight, mostly cloudy and cold with a low around 18

5) Did You Know?

Did you know the city of approved the site plans for the new community center? The former fire station at 355 Seventh St. will include two meeting rooms and increased outdoor green space for concerts and movie nights. The building is expected to be complete by June 2012.
