Five Things in Waukee: Thanksgiving, etc.

1) Thanksgiving Day

Happy Thanksgiving, Waukee! We hope you're reading this only while that turkey is basting. We here at Waukee Patch hope you have a great holiday!

2) Thanksgiving Buffet and Zach Hayden Benefit at Mickey's Irish Pub

Mickey's Irish Pub will host a full Thanksgiving buffet today from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at their Waukee location. The buffet is free and open to the public. Donations are being accepted for Zach Hayden, a Waukee toddler with apraxia of speech and a neuro degenerative disorder. Hayden will eventually need extensive care and incur tremendous medical costs. Hayden's mom, Samantha is a longtime Mickey's employee.

3) Holiday Closures

All Waukee city offices are closed today. There is no mail service Thursday but will resume Friday. The Waukee Public Library and all Waukee Public Schools are closed. Most retail businesses are also closed for the holiday.

4) Today's Weather

Gorgeous weather for Thanksgiving day. Today, you can expect sunny skies with a high near 63. Tonight, partly cloudy skies with a low around 45.

5) Gas Prices

Gas prices are holding steady this Thanksgiving day, just in time for holiday travel. In Waukee, the cheapest place to fill up was the Casey's at 20 W. Hwy 6 & Warrior Lane where gas was just $3.17 a gallon, according to IowaStateGasPrices.com.
