Five Things in Waukee: "The Elephant Man," Youth Basketball and a Food Drive

Here's everything you need to know today, Nov. 12, and some other stuff, too.

1) First & Second Grade Waukee YMCA Basketball Clinics

The will host a basketball clinic today at beginning at 9 a.m. The clinics are open to first and second grade students. Registration for the first and second grade basketball leagues will begin Dec. 1. The season will run Feb.-Mar. More information will be available by December.

2) Third-Seventh Grade Waukee YMCA Basketball Leagues

The Waukee YMCA will host basketball league games today at at 9 a.m. Leagues Games also take place at Maple Grove and Brookview Elementary schools.  Extended league registration will begin Jan. 1. League games start Feb. 4.  There are no practices during the week for this program, only games on Saturdays.

3) Waukee Theatre Arts "The Elephant Man"

There are still tickets available to the Waukee Theatre Arts production of "The Elephant Man" today at the Theatre Arts Center at . There are two shows - one at 2 p.m. and another at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children. and can be purchased at the door or at http://www.seatyourself.biz/waukeetheatrearts.

4) Today's Weather

Great weekend to get out. Expect sunny skies today with a high near 58. Tonight, mostly cloudy with a low around 42.

5) Dollars for Scholars Food Drive

Did you know that there is still time to donate to the  Waukee School District's Dollars for Scholars Food Drive? The drive runs through Nov. 28 and all donated items benefit the Waukee Area Christian Services Food Pantry. Parents are asked to bring or send donated items to their child's school. Cash donations will also be accepted.

Below is a list of suggested items by school:

Brookview Elementary: Baking items, jello, pudding, crackers
Eason Elementary:Peanut butter, jelly, drinks (juice)
Maple Grove Elementary: Pizza mix/sauce, pasta, pasta sauce
Shuler Elementary: Canned fruit, snacks, rice/pasta sides
Walnut Hills Elementary: Canned meat, canned beans, canned vegetables,  canned tomatoes
Waukee Elementary: Cereal, oatmeal, pancake mix, syrup
South Middle School: Cleaning products, laundry soap, diapers
Waukee Middle School: Personal Care items-shampoo, conditioner, body soap, toothpaste, toilet paper
Prairieview School: Canned meals, canned soup (cream or broth)
Waukee High School: Boxed meals, boxed potatoes, boxed stuffing
