Five Things in Waukee: Veteran's Day, a Play and the Weather Today

Here's everything you need to know today, Friday, Nov. 11 and some other stuff, too.

1) Veteran's Day Closures

Today is Veteran's Day. In accordance with the Federal holiday, all banks and government offices will be closed today and there will be no mail delivery. Both the Waukee city offices and the Waukee Public Library will be closed today.

2) Veteran's Day Event

The American Legion 737 and the VFW Post 11517 will hold a special event today beginning at 10 a.m. at the . There will be coffee and doughnuts, the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem and all the veterans in attendance will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and join in on their service songs. The event is open to the public.

3) Waukee Theatre Arts Presents "The Elephant Man"

The Waukee Theatre Arts program presents its fall play, "The Elephant Man" tonight beginning at 7 p.m. at the Theatre Arts Center at . Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at http://www.seatyourself.biz/waukeetheatrearts.

Today, expect sunny skies with a high near 56. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 36.

5) Did You Know?

Did you know the is putting on a Christmas Drive? The program provides toys, food and other items to area low-income families in time for the holidays.

Donations of new, unwrapped toys will be taken at the Waukee Police Department now through December 16.  Donations of food and other non-perishable items can be made directly to the Waukee Area Christian Services Food Pantry. 

The Waukee Police are asking those who want to make a monetary donation to make checks payable to the Waukee Christmas Fund.
