Five Things Waukee Residents Should Know: Kids Eat Free, Mall Fun, Sports to Cheer

Here's what's going on in Waukee today, Sept. 27, and some other stuff you might want to know.

1) School Board and Planning & Zoning Meetings

The Waukee school board will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the Waukee Community Schools District Office.

The Waukee Planning & Zoning Commission will meet tonight at 6 p.m. in the Waukee City Hall Council chambers.

2) Family Night at Valley West Mall

Valley West Mall will host a family fun night that includes inflatable rides, a coloring contest, arts and crafts, balloons and temporary tattoos tonight from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Tuesday night's special guest will be the Iowa State University Insect Zoo.

3) Kids Eat Free

Both and in Waukee offer free chow for the kids. Philley's Finest lets kids eat free with the purchase of an adult entree. Pizza Ranch also allows kids to eat free with the purchase of an adult meal.

4) Waukee Walks Informational Meeting

Waukee Walks is a statewide initiative to raise health awareness and promote healthy lifestyles scheduled for Friday, Oct. 7. There will be a meeting today to learn more about Waukee Walks, why the event is taking place and how to participate. Meet at the Waukee Family YMCA today from noon to 1 p.m. Please RSVP to waukeewalks@gmail.com.

5) Waukee Sports

Check your Warrior pride and cheer for one of the many teams with meets and match-ups today. The list is as follows:

Waukee Middle School eighth-grade football vs. Ames at Waukee Stadium - 4 p.m.

South Middle School eighth-grade volleyball vs. Johnston at the South Middle School gym - 4:30 p.m.

Waukee High School cross country meet at Legacy Point Park in Clive - 5 p.m.

Waukee High School girls' swim meet vs. Marshalltown at YMCA - 5 p.m.
