Five Things Waukee Residents Should Know: Rotary, Ribbon Cuttings and Octoberfest

Here's what's going on in Waukee today, Sept. 29, and some other stuff you might want to know.

1) Rotary Club Meeting

Interested in joining the Rotary Club? The group will meet first thing this morning at 6:45 a.m. at the Des Moines Golf & Country Club in West Des Moines.

2) Peoples Company Ribbon Cutting

The is hosting a ribbon cutting for Peoples Company, 2420 S.E. Stone Prairie Drive, today beginning at 5 p.m. There will be grilled burgers and beverages courtesy of Peoples Company. Please RSVP to www.waukeechamber.com/registration.

3) Octoberfest

The will host Oktoberfest today from 5 to 9 p.m. at . The event is sponsored by the German students and teachers from the district.

There will be an Octoberfest history lesson, free Polka lessons, Bratwurst dinners and German candies for sale, and information booths. The event is open to the public. There is no cost to attend.

4) Songwriting Workshop Canceled

A songwriting workshop sponsored by the has been canceled due to a lack of registrations. The workshop was scheduled to he held today from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at ArtsCentral.

5) Mosquito Spraying Tonight

It's the last spray of the year. Mosquito spraying will commence at 9 p.m. this evening. If you have a medical condition that might be affected by the spray, please contact Waukee City Hall and they will add your address to a  ‘Do Not Spray Area’ list. Mosquito spraying will resume in June 2012.
