Five Things Waukee Residents Should Know: Yard Waste, Politics and Volunteers Needed

Here's what's going on in Waukee today, Oct. 3, and some other stuff you might want to know.

1) Yard Waste Pick Up

For students interested in leadership at the Waukee Public Library, the Teen Advisory Board will meet today at 4 p.m. at the library. Teen advisors volunteer at the library, plan teen programs and run fundraisers. They also assist in the selection of young adult materials.

2) City Council Candidate and Mayor's Forum Tomorrow

The Waukee Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee will host a candidate's forum in the Waukee City Council Chambers in the Waukee City Hall tomorrow (Tuesday) beginning at 6:30 p.m. Casey Harvey, Chris Colter and Shelly Hughes are running for two seats on the Waukee City Council. Bill Peard and Daniel Pettit are vying for the mayor's spot. Attendees are asked to RSVP at www.waukeechamber.com/registration.

5) Volunteers Needed

The ISU Extension and Outreach- Dallas County is looking at starting a Robotics Afterschool Club for 3-5th graders at Maple Grove Elementary.  The club will be focused on robotics and us LEGOS Mindstorm kits to allow students to have fun with building and programming robots!  High school and adult volunteers are needed to assist with:  planning and supervising, assisting with connecting to engineers, making contacts on behalf of the robotics club and providing monetary donations to help support the program.
