Letter to the Editor: Why Obama Care Really Works

The Affordable Care Act or Obama Care has already benefited me. I was rear ended while driving a company van in March 2010. This accident caused a hematoma, which led to my heart’s irregular beating and atrial fibrillation.

In June 2010, I was laid off from my job due to the economy. For the next 18 months, I paid for the COBRA health benefits. My present job does not include health care benefits. So last fall, I applied to three health insurance carriers to purchase health care coverage beginning in January when COBRA ended. I was denied health insurance by all three health insurance providers for pre-existing conditions.

Because Iowa has implemented a stop gap coverage until the Affordable Care Act is fully activated in 2014, I am able to purchase health care coverage through the state of Iowa with the authorization of the Affordable Care Act. It is called Obama Care because President Obama does care that everyone is able to purchase health care coverage.
