Middle School Play Opens Tonight at Theatre Arts Center

Eighth grade students from both South Middle School and Waukee Middle School will present the fall production of "Spy School" beginning tonight at the Theatre Arts Center at Prairieview School.

The curtain goes up tonight on the combined middle school 8th grade play, "Spy School" at the Theatre Arts Center at Prairieview School.

"Spy School," written by a former high school and middle school theater teacher named Don Zolidis, takes place in 1961 and centers around Jane Doe, your typical teenage high school student. Doe is drafted by the CIA to complete a super secret mission to infiltrate an American high school and flush out a Russian spy.

Lynnae Lathrop, speech and theater instructor at South Middle School, is directing the play. She said the cast of students from both and have been working since the beginning of October to memorize their lines, get into character and ready the production for the stage.

"They've all worked very hard," Lathrop said of the 27 actors and 10 tech leaders.

"Spy School" is appropriate for all ages and opens tonight at 7 p.m. at the . Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased at the door or online at Seat Yourself.

A second showing of "Spy School" will take place tomorrow night at the Theatre Arts Center also at 7 p.m.
