PHOTO GALLERY: Waukee Middle Schoolers Prepare for Mock Trial Competition
The Waukee middle school mock trial team is preparing for the regional mock trial competition to be held on Nov. 2 at the Polk County Convention Complex.
Mock trial coach Ben Hicks said he couldn't be more proud of the 27 middle schoolers who are headed to their first competition of the year next week.
"They've made a lot of progress this year," he said Thursday night during rehearsal at Waukee Middle School. "This case is very detailed with a lot of heavy medical and legal terminology and to see sixth, seventh and eighth graders take all of that and turn it into this, that's pretty cool to see."
The Iowa State Bar Association Middle School Mock Trial competition will be held Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Polk County Convention Complex in downtown Des Moines. The Waukee middle school team made up of middle schoolers from both Waukee Middle School and , will compete against more than 30 teams from the region.
