Waukee's New Sears Hometown Store is Open
The Sears Hometown store in Waukee is the first in the Des Moines area and the 23rd in Iowa.

It's official — the Sears Hometown Store at 300 W. Hickman Road is open for business.
Owner Lee Mundus said the store opened Tuesday, Nov. 1, to fairly steady traffic.
"We’re glad we’re finally open," he said. "We had a pretty decent first day. I expect that things will start to pick up once people figure out we're open. It's all downhill from here."

Mundus said the 7,000-square-foot store carries everything from home appliances to electronics to home and garden items and tools. Every item in the store is backed by the Sears' warranties and guarantees and if he doesn't have a particular item in the store, Mundus said it can still be ordered.
"Each store is independently owned, but backed by Sears," he said. "And if there is something we don't have, all I have to do is make a call and we can get it from the warehouse. That's everything, too. Even clothing."

Mundus said despite unlimited inventory access, he doesn't expect to overshadow other Waukee businesses selling similar items. His store will instead offer additional options.
"On some things we’re going to overlap, but our main lines are completely different," he said. "We hope that we’ll just generate additional business and draw people out from areas like Clive and West Des Moines and the surrounding communities."
