Parents Talk: What to Do When You're Seeing Double

In this week's installment of Parents Talk, we pay homage to parents of multiples and all the insanity that comes with having twins, triplets and quads.

I should just come right out with it - I'm the mother of multiples.

The thing is, I've had four years (and nine months) to get used to the idea that I have two kids who were born on the same day. Easy concept to grasp, wouldn't you think? For some, not so much.

I should preface this by saying they aren't my only children. I also have a 5 year-old daughter. You can't begin to imagine the things people say to a mother of multiples, especially when you have a third child in tow.

If you have multiples, what kinds of comments do you hear from strangers? If you have more than one child, do people often say things to you when you're out in public with your children? Tell us in the comments.

"Oh my! You have your hands full!," "I don't know how you do it," and "Did you plan that?" are all comments I've addressed at one time or another in the presence of my children.

Admittedly, multiples are a bit of a freak show. I mean, when the twins were babies, taking all three kids anywhere was a lesson in efficient planning and perseverance. I never went anywhere unprepared. Snacks, bottles, diapers, a change of clothes - I was armed to the teeth. What I wasn't prepared for were all the questions.

Seriously, I could have written a book about all the messed up things perfect strangers asked. There were questions about my fertility ("Did you do in vitro?"), family history ("Do twins run in your family?") and my favorite, "Are they identical or fraternal?"

I found this video a while back that pretty much sums up how I feel about being the mom of multiples. It wouldn't be so funny if it wasn't 100 percent true. But it is. Every word.

So, the question this week is, if you are the parent of multiples, what are some of the craziest things strangers have said to you? If you have more than one child, do people often say things along the same lines?  Tell us in the comments.
