Senator Pat Ward and Husband Injured During Storm Clean-Up This Weekend
Senator Pat Ward and her husband John were injured over the weekend while cleaning up storm damage. Ward released a statement Monday about the accident.

Senate Republican Assistant Leader Pat Ward suffered serious injuries while cleaning up damage from this weekend's severe weather.
In a statement released Monday, Ward said, “My husband John and I want to extend our sincerest appreciation for all of the many kind thoughts and prayers extended our way as well as the wonderful care we have received from Mercy Hospital.
"We had an accident at our residence related to the picking up of storm debris this weekend. I had a minor compression fracture in my lower back that will not require surgery and John has several fractured ribs and a partially collapsed lung.

"We are both doing well, are in good spirits and we both look forward to being released from the hospital later today or tomorrow. I am excited about returning to my work in the Senate either tomorrow or later this week."
One of Ward's opponents for the district 22 Senate seat that includes Waukee and West Des Moines, Jeff Mullen, lead pastor at Point of Grace Church in Waukee, said he wishes Ward and her husband a quick recovery.Â

"I am saddened to hear of the accident of Senator Pat Ward and her husband John," he said. "The prayer ministry at Point of Grace Church are praying for them and I am praying for them as well."
