Waukee Chamber and WEDCO Celebrate New Digs

The Waukee Chamber of Commerce and WEDCO recently moved into their new office at 236 W. Hickman Rd. Their grand opening/ribbon cutting will be held today at 5 p.m.

With the rapid growth of the city, it was bound to happen that two of the agencies responsible for promoting and growing Waukee would grow too.

Today, the and the Waukee Economic Development Corp. (WEDCO) will celebrate their new combined office space at 236 W. Hickman Rd.

The new digs include a large reception area, two offices, a board room, kitchenette, bathrooms and storage, all in 1,800-square-feet. The recently remodeled office space is just three doors down from at 230 W. Hickman Rd.

Melinda Behn, executive director of the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce, said the new office space is a welcome partnership between the Chamber and WEDCO.

"There have been discussions for several years about planning and saving for a move to our own space," said Behn. "We had a meeting with the city early last year about possibly of building out this space. It had been open for some time and the city was looking to lease it. WEDCO was also looking for a space so we had discussions with them and we partnered up and started making plans."

The two offices - previously housed in Waukee City Hall - will now have their own space to showcase business and projects in and around the city of Waukee.

"The Chamber has been around since 1999 and it’s just the perfect point in our continued growth to have something that is easily accessible to our membership and the growing community," Behn said. "People can come right into our office and get what they need. It's good for us to both be in same office building."

Behn said construction began early this year with the remodel completed last month. She added that the move would not have been possible without the assistance of Chamber and WEDCO members Rod West, Steve Banks, Paul Hassebroek, Brian Mook, Clark Smith, and the city of Waukee administration, mayor and city council. Larry Lyon, owner of Mr. Fix It/Remodelworks helped head up the project.
