Waukee Mayor Faces Challenger in Nov. 8 Election

Five candidates have filed nomination papers to run for seats on the Waukee City Council and for mayor of Waukee in the Nov. 8 election.

There are two spots up for grabs on the Waukee City Council this fall. Council member Casey Harvey's term ends Dec. 31, as does council member Darlene Stanton's. Stanton has resigned her seat effective Oct. 18 because she is moving out of state.

Those running for council seats this November include:

Casey Harvey — Harvey is running for re-election after serving a four-year term on the Waukee City Council. Harvey is a resident of Waukee and works as an application systems analyst for EMC. Harvey can be contacted at (515) 978-1304 or casey@reelectcasey.com.

Chris Colter — Colter has lived in Waukee since 1994. He has served on the Waukee Parks and Recreation Board, the Waukee Library Board of Trustees and is a past president of the Waukee Chamber of Commerce, among others. Colter can be contacted at (515) 720-1925 or c.colter@mchsi.com.

Mayor's race

Mayor Bill Peard will have competition as he seeks re-election this year. Challenger Daniel Pettit filed papers Sept. 20 to run for the office Peard has held since 2005.

Pettit is a unit sales manager for the MassMutual Financial group in West Des Moines. He has earned both his bachelor's and master's of business administration degrees from Drake University and currently holds membership in both the Rotary Club and Des Moines Symphony. Peard announced his intention to run for another term this summer. In an August interview with Waukee Patch, Peard said, “There is still a lot to be done." A Waukee candidate forum for mayor and city council will be held Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Waukee City Council Chambers. The forum is being sponsored by the Government Affairs Committee and will be moderated by Dennis Goldford.
