Waukee Police Offer Character Building Academy

The Waukee Police Department in conjunction with other area organizations will offer the Character Building Academy this summer in Waukee.

Parents, are you searching for something more structured for your teenager to do this summer? Anxious to find an activity that teaches respect and authority to your teen? If so, then you might want to check out the Waukee Police Department's Character Building Academy.

The Character Building Academy is a 10 day military-style course that takes young men and women, ages 12-16, through the mental and physical challenges it takes to develop leadership and character. Teens will learn teamwork, respect for themselves and others and build confidence through classroom instruction and outdoor challenges that will put their moxie to the test.

The men's program is June 4-15 (no weekends) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The women's program is June 18-29 (no weekends) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program is being held at the .

This program is sponsored by the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, Juvenile Court Services, Dallas Center Police Department, and the Waukee Police Department who will also provide personnel to teach subjects and interact with the cadets.

The cost is Registration packets can be picked up at any of the above agencies or downloaded from the Waukee Police Department's website. Cost for the program is $85 which includes the uniform and hat for each cadet. Class sizes are limited.
