Waukee School Board Approves Raise for Non-Covered Employees

At its regularly scheduled meeting Monday night, the Waukee Board of Education approved a three percent raise for non-covered employees in the district, effective in 2013.

During its regular meeting Monday night, the Waukee Board of Education approved a three percent salary increase for non-covered employees in the .

The raise will take affect during the 2013 fiscal year.

A non-covered employee - as defined by the district - is a staff member who is not a teacher in the Waukee schools. This would include administrators and all other non-teaching staff members.

According to a story in The Des Moines Register, last year non-covered employees received a two percent salary increase. The year prior, according to Lora Appenzeller-Miller, the district’s chief financial officer, administrators’ pay was frozen for one year, while all other non-covered staff received only a small increase.

The Register article says at the meeting, board president Jerry Ripperger expressed an interest in exploring a new pay model for non-covered employees, particularly administrators, sometime in the future.
