Week in Review: Small Business, City Elections, a School Play and Giving Back

In case you missed something, here's a recap of the news and events from Waukee Patch for the week of Nov. 7-13.

1) On Monday, freelance writer Dave Dolmage told you about celebrating 21 years in business in Waukee. Owner Lyn Shafer said Waukee feels like home.

2) Tuesday, the city of Waukee held for mayor and two seats on the Waukee City Council. Mayor Bill Peard was re-elected and newcomer Shelly Hughes nabbed one of the two seats on the city council. Incumbent council member Casey Harvey tied with challenger Chris Colter at 502 votes each. The winner will be determined this week by the Dallas County Board of Supervisors.

3) On Wednesday, writer TJ Rushing previewed the Waukee volleyball team as the girls made their way to the against Ankeny on Wednesday. The Warriors lost to Ankeny 25-16, 25-12, 25-22.

4) Friday was Veterans Day and the American Legion along with the VFW honored veterans living at the with a ceremony acknowledging their service.

5) Also Friday, we showed you a photo gallery from the Waukee Theatre Arts program's, at the Theatre Arts Center at Prairieview School. The fall play ran Friday and Saturday.

6) Saturday, we gave you yet another gallery of photos, this time from the held at Point of Grace Church on Saturday. It was estimated that almost 400 volunteers put together more than 65,000 meals for the impoverished. The event was organized by Waukee Serves.
