Weekend Happenings in Waukee: Art Class, Baseball, Movie Day and the Zoo

Teenagers 14-17 are invited to participate in an Exploration in Painting at today beginning at 2 p.m. Taught by Waukee artist Wendy Rounds, cost for the class is $25 and all materials are provided. Young artists are encouraged to wear a smock or old clothing.

"Dolphin Tale" at the Waukee Public Library

Get out of the heat and come out to the today for its afternoon movie series. The Library will be showing "The Lorax" today at 2 p.m. The movie is free and open to the public and includes popcorn. Next week's show will be "Puss in Boots."

Waukee Chamber Ribbon-Cutting for Thai Basil

The Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a ribbon-cutting for the new Thai Basil restaurant at 286 Highway 6 (Hickman Road) beginning at 2:30 p.m. The ribbon-cutting will be held at 3 p.m.

Waukee High School Baseball vs. Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson

In Class 4-A district and substate play, will face Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson High School tonight at 7 p.m. at Waukee High School.

Waukee is 23-9 heading into the quarterfinals. Thomas Jefferson is 3-26. The winner of tonight's game will play again Saturday in the semi-final round.

YMCA Day at the Blank Park Zoo

The Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines and the YMCA of Greater of Des Moines (including the ) are hosting a YMCA Day at the Zoo this Saturday.

YMCA members will be admitted that day for $4 per person. Members must show proof of Y membership at the gate.

Kick Band with Sydney Lett at Mickey's Irish Pub

Come out and listen to the sounds of the Code Blue band at Saturday at 9 p.m. There is no cover charge to attend.
