Expect Busy West Des Moines Malls on School Sales Tax Holiday

A heads up on the sales tax holiday.

Iowa's Sales Tax holiday will soon be here. NoΒ sales taxΒ will be collected on select clothing and footwear Aug. 3 and Aug. 4.

Than means a savings of up to 7 percent in West Des Moines, where , and other shopping districts and retail stores are expected to busy with families getting their kids ready for school.

The exemption only applies to clothing and shoes that cost less than $100 per item. And some odd rules apply.Β ShoesΒ without cleats are exempt, shoes with cleats are taxable.

Any store that is open from 12 a.m. Aug. 3 to 12 a.m. Aug. 5 has to participate.

If an item bought on theΒ sales taxΒ holiday is exchanged later the buyer will not have to pay taxes on the new item.
