Valley West Mall Younkers Remains Closed Following Fire: Updated

WEST DES MOINES, IA — The Valley West Mall Younkers store remains closed this morning following a fire that was reported around 5 a.m. A store employee told Patch shortly before 11 a.m. officials had not yet been determined when the store would reopen and referred calls to the corporate office, where no one was yet available.

The fire was restricted to a mechanical room at the store and was quickly extinguished by West Des Moines firefighters. Smoke remained in the store for a time and a fire department spokesman told WHO-TV most of the smoke was on the store's lower level.

No injuries were reported and the extent of the damage is unknown. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
