West Des Moines Has Reopened Two Major Roads: Updated

Normal traffic will be restored on Ashworth Road and South 60th Street, but work to widen Ashworth will resume in the spring.

WEST DES MOINES, IA — Two major streets that have been closed since September have reopened in time for Thanksgiving Day traffic, city officials said Wednesday. Both Ashworth Road and South 60th Street were scheduled to reopen by 6 a.m. Thursday, but work wrapped up early and the roads reopened late Wednesday afternoon.

Ashworth Road has been closed from Jordan Creek Parkway to 81st Street so crews could complete work needed ahead of street widening. Construction will resume in the spring when Ashworth Road will be closed again until Phase I of the widening project is completed in the late summer or fall.

South 60th Street from Mills Civic Parkway to Grand Avenue also reopened Wednesday afternoon.
