Here are the top stories today in Baton Rouge:
- A 15-year-old boy was injured in a shooting on Avis Avenue yesterday afternoon, according to Baton Rouge police. The shooting took place at about 2:00 p.m. in the 9300 block of Avis Ave, near the intersection of Emmaline Drive. The boy was taken to Children's Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. - A grandmother and mother are behind bars after being charged with the death of a four-year-old. According to police, the grandmother forced the child to consume a bottle of whiskey while the mother watched. The two women have been booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for first-degree murder. (BRProud.com)
- Have you been hearing helicopters? It may be for mosquito control. According to Dr. Michael Becker of the East Baton Rouge Mosquito Abatement and Rodent Control Board, spraying chemicals with fixed-wing aircraft is too inaccurate. The board approved the $5 million acquisition of a helicopter in order to make spraying more accurate and reliable. (WBRZ)
