Progress Elementary School held a community event to provide male students with free haircuts courtesy of Ray J’s College of Hair. Students from the college visited Progress to cut the younger students’ hair. For fourth grader and running back Naheem Smith, getting a free haircut made a difference in his family’s household.

Before the pandemic, Cosey and his students went to different schools — including McKinley High School — in East Baton Rouge Parish and cut the students’ hair.

“I want it to happen again next year,” he said. “Even though I’m leaving next year, I want other students to look good, too.”
