Police say the child’s phone helped them track the stolen vehicle, leading to the arrest of a cross-country suspect now facing carjacking and kidnapping-related charges.

Five men indicted by grand jury in connection with Southern University student Caleb Wilson's hazing death (nola.com) — A Kenner native, Southern University student Caleb Wilson, is at the center of new indictments after a Baton Rouge grand jury charged five men in connection with his hazing-related death. Prosecutors allege Wilson collapsed during a fraternity ritual, and lawmakers have since honored him and advanced anti-hazing legislation in his name.

Drones now being deployed to fight crime in Jefferson Parish are 'a game changer,' sheriff says (nola.com) — Kenner residents should know that Jefferson Parish’s new crime-fighting drones will not cover their city because of its proximity to the airport and flight paths. The sheriff’s office is rolling out 23 remotely piloted drones to respond quickly to 911 calls across most of unincorporated Jefferson Parish and nearby cities, aiming to boost arrests, officer safety, and evidence gathering.

NOLA area protestors gather near JPSO in opposition of immigration crackdown (wdsu.com) — Protesters gathered near the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office to denounce an immigration sweep they say is unfairly targeting Hispanic residents, while also criticizing parish leaders for staying mostly silent. A recent tweet praising Jefferson Parish officials, including the Kenner police chief, for helping remove “criminal illegal aliens” has further fueled concerns about local cooperation with federal immigration raids.
