Here are the top stories in New Orleans today:
- A man was discovered after being shot to death in New Orleans East on Thursday. He died at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds on Martin Drive in the Seabrook area. Police are currently investigating the incident and there is currently no more information. (WDSU New Orleans)
- The New Orleans District Attorney claims that he is calling for an "extensive internal review" after multiple people who were caught carrying illegal weapons during Mardi Gras had their charges dropped afterwards. The Assistant DA, according to a statement from the DA's office, apparently deviated from usual practice by dismissing these charges. (WBRZ)
- A total of 352 arrests were made during Mardi Gras this year. It was initially thought that this highly anticipated season was going to have to operate on a smaller scale due to lower numbers of police officers, but the NOPD is publishing their final reports on the weekend, and it seems to have gone mostly smoothly, barring two shootings and one stabbing.
