City Of New Orleans: New Orleans Led Team Launches New Traffic Safety Analysis Tool

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans, in partnership with the Regional Transit Authority, University of New Orleans Transportation Institute, and Toole Design Group, has developed and launched a new traffic safety analysis tool, the Safer Streets Priority Finder (SSPF). The conduct systemic crash analyses to understand vulnerable road user risk by roadway segments.

This product was made possible by a U.S. Department of Transportation Safety Data Initiative grant and is available to users nationwide.
The tool combines historic crash data and predictive modeling to develop outputs to identify and prioritize roadway safety improvements. This includes a Sliding Window Analysis that identifies severity-weighted crash densities along road segments; the Safer Streets Model, which estimates potential crash risk; and a data dashboard with summary visualizations.
