NEW ORLEANS — Today, the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works announced that beginning on Friday, Oct. 15, by 5 p.m., the intersection of North Rampart and Canal streets will be partially reopened to vehicular traffic to relieve congestion in the downtown area. Public safety is our priority; residents and commuters are reminded to adhere to all signage and barricaded areas as lanes of travel are restored to normal operations.

Motorists approaching from the Central Business District (CBD) and heading toward Louis Armstrong Park are advised to use caution as traffic will be temporarily limited to one lane after crossing Canal Street onto North Rampart Street. Traffic heading toward the CBD and Uptown will have both lanes of travel restored and should not experience any lane restrictions. Parking restrictions will remain in effect along this route.

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic at this location was closed and detoured to alternative routes following the October 2019 Hard Rock Hotel collapse. Future roadway and RTA work at this location will require traffic restrictions and closures next year in order to repair/replace the roadway and underground utilities.
