Here are the top stories today in New Orleans:
- Mayor LaToya Cantrell has signed a contract with the International Association of Chief of Police to locate New Orleans' next police department superintendent. Interim chief Michelle Woodfork has been stepping in since December when Shaun Ferguson stepped down from his position. The terms of the contract have not been released, but City Council members have made remarks indicating there will be more information to come. (WWLTV.com)
- The restraining order against the Wisner Trust fund has been temporarily lifted by a New Orleans judge to avoid tax penalties. The fund has been frozen since September after a debate between Mayor Cantrell and City Council, who wanted the fund resolved. $2.6 million will be given to the fund's beneficiaries, which is supposed to go towards beautification and human services, to avoid IRS penalties. - A 14-year-old boy was tragically shot and killed on Thursday night in Bywater. Police respond to a call of shots fired just after 9:45 p.m. on Lesseps Street where they found a juvenile male in the driveway of a home, unresponsive. He was declared dead at the scene by EMS and an investigation is ongoing. (WWLTV)
