Greenway NEW ORLEANS, LA, September 27, 2021 – The Greenway’s Supernova is back this
year with a light-based, outdoor exhibit and annual fundraiser. The Greenway
Supernova is combining the spirit of their Greenway Soiree and Fest into one joyous
weekend from December 9th - 11th, Thursday through Saturday evenings from
5pm-9pm. This free, safe, and socially distanced outdoor experience will celebrate
community and the holidays, drive foot-traffic and customers to local businesses, and
raise critical funds for the Greenway’s growth and care in 2022. NEW ORLEANS, LA, September 27, 2021 – The Greenway’s Supernova is back this
year with a light-based, outdoor exhibit and annual fundraiser. The Greenway
Supernova is combining the spirit of their Greenway Soiree and Fest into one joyous
weekend from December 9th - 11th, Thursday through Saturday evenings from
5pm-9pm. Building off of the success of last year, Supernova will be held at the Greenway Station
and Plaza. The Station, an open-air pavilion, completed renovations in March 2020, and
this event will be much of the public’s first introduction to the space. The Greenway
Plaza was transformed at last year’s Supernova into a space for people to view art,
relax, and be outside. The Plaza features Will Nemitoff’s “Iris of Memory” sculpture at
the front of the site, modular seating, ground murals, bike parking, and the Greenway
stage for performances. Also the site of the Crescent City Farmers Market Thursday
market who are partners for Supernova’s opening night. Supernova will highlight light-based art from local artists. A call is now open for artists to

“Supernova celebrates the Greenway and our community with art, light, joy, and
creativity, and it makes the Greenway growth and care possible,” said Sophie Vorhoff,

Executive Director. A joyous community holiday celebration, this outdoor installation safely fills a need for
connection to arts, culture, community, joy, and family fun with holiday spirit while safely
social distancing during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Station and Plaza will
come alive with fun activities for all with live music, arts activities, food vendors, and an
arts market.

While Supernova is free for the public to view, it is a critical fundraiser for the Lafitte
Greenway. Individuals and businesses have the opportunity to support the exhibit and
future Greenway programming and improvements through making a donation. In
exchange for donations, participants receive “doubluminary” tokens to exchange for
exclusive perks and specials at participating local businesses from December 1, 2021 to
Mardi Gras 2022. The “Star Business” program is designed to bring foot-traffic and
support to local businesses around the Lafitte Greenway that have been hit hard by the
COVID-19 pandemic.
