On Monday, December 6, 2021, at 4:44 am, the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) responded to reports of a fire at 6101 Tullis Drive, a multi-unit wood framed apartment complex. The first NOFD unit arrived at 4:49 am to heavy smoke and flames through the roof of Building H and struck a second alarm at 4:59 am. The resident of the apartment in which the fire originated, stated that she was alerted by the smoke alarm while in the shower and found her bedroom on fire. The Incident Commander struck a third alarm at 5:33 as firefighters evacuated residents of that entire building. In all, there were sixteen apartments in that building, fifteen being occupied.
Twenty-three NOFD units carrying fifty-four Fire Operations personnel worked to bring this incident under control at 7:06 am. There was no civilian injuries and one firefighter who injured his right arm who was treated on scene by New Orleans Emergency Medical Services (NOEMS). The American Red Cross assisted approximately thirty-one displaced residents. The cause of this fire is under investigation.
