New Orleans Fire Department: Two Alarm Fire Damages Six Homes

Fifteen NOFD units supported by forty-five Fire Operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control at 4:47 am.

On Monday, January 3, 2022 at 3:12 am the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) received a 911 call reporting a residential fire in the 7600 block of Shorewood Blvd. Dispatched at 3:14 am, the first NOFD company arrived on the scene at 3:16 am., finding a large home under construction at 7600 Shorewood Blvd. almost completely involved in flames. Strong swirling winds were causing the fire to extend to properties to the left, right and rear, prompting the request for a second alarm at 3:19 am.

The original fire building at 7600 Shorewood Blvd. was completely destroyed. The occupied home to the immediate left at 7574 Shorewood and a property being renovated to the immediate right at 7608 Shorewood Blvd., suffered significant fire damage. All five residents at 7574 Shorewood Blvd. escaped safely prior to NOFD arrival.

Two homes directly rear of the original fire building also suffered significant fire damage, an unoccupied dwelling at 7571 Avon Park Blvd. and an occupied home at 7573 Avon Park Blvd. The elderly resident at 7573 Avon Park Blvd. escaped safely but unfortunately his dog perished in the fire. Embers being blown across the street also caused moderate roof damage to an unoccupied dwelling at 7560 Avon Park Blvd.

Fifteen NOFD units supported by forty-five Fire Operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control at 4:47 am. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The American Red Cross has been requested to the scene to assist the residents displaced by this incident.
