When police arrived at Ann's Dari-Creme in the 7900 block of Ritchie Highway they discovered that Sherman had injuries in his upper torso that were consistent with wounds from a stabbing, said Anne Arundel County Police Lt. John McAndrews. Sherman's body was taken from BWMC to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore. McAndrew said investigation led police to believe Sherman was stabbed before the crash.

Once on the scene, officers learned that Sherman was driving east on Americana Circle when he lost control of the green 2006 Dodge Magnum station wagon and crossed Ritchie Highway, including a grassy median, jumped the curb and hit a table in the Ann's parking lot where a 15-year-old girl was sitting with her family. The station wagon continued through the parking lot when it hit a tree and came to a stop.
The 15-year-old girl suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore. Her condition was unknown as of 3:30 p.m. Monday, McAndrew said. He said he could not confirm if other pedestrians were injured in the accident.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division conducted interviews and recovered evidence that Sherman had been stabbed, McAndrew said.
"We found a knife near a sidewalk in the 7800 block of Americana Circle," he said. "There were no calls prior to the accident about an altercation. That apartment complex [Americana Southdale] is a relatively low crime area in the Glen Burnie area."
