Sidewalker, Horse Leader Volunteer

"Sidewalkers will walk along side the rider providing support by using a light thigh hold or just by being there to spot the rider and maintain balance. All volunteers are expected to commit to available dates and show up when expected. Horse leaders must have some experience and understanding of horses and their behavior. You will receive basic leading instructions related to Therapeutic Riding. Lessons are 45 minutes long. This is an outdoor farm setting and allergies to horses and cats would affect your experience of volunteering. Volunteers are expected to be present for approximately three hours on the days they volunteer. Lessons are held evenings and weekends."

"Must be 16 years old. No horse experience necessary, though not being intimidated by large animals is a must. Proper attire is required for comfort and safety; sturdy boots or shoes, multiple layers of clothing, minimal jewelry and perfume. Request to volunteer forms are available on their website at www.chesapeaketherapeuticriding.org."

"All three forms (request to volunteer, background check and hold harmless) need to be completed and mailed in before being invited to Volunteer Orientation. No faxed copies will be accepted."
